The Impact of AI and Machine Learning Technologies in Manufacturing

New data- and ML-based business models will become more commonplace, so early adopters will have a competitive advantage. Machine learning will happen both in the cloud and on the edge, i.e., directly on or next to production machines and sensors.

Creating Energy Resilience in Your Manufacturing Facility

Achieving energy resilience at a manufacturing facility or elsewhere is a two-part process. First, it requires ensuring you have a reliable power supply. Next, an energy-resilient company must have thorough plans for how to respond if a power failure occurs.

Desktop Metal Develops New Additive Manufacturing Process for Volume Production of Sustainable, End-Use Wood Parts

Desktop Metal's new Forust additive manufacturing process upcycles wood waste from the approximately 15 billion trees cut down each year1 into luxurious, high-quality, end-use wood parts that can be used in a variety of industries.

Reducing Manufacturing Cost and Risk with Hybrid AI

For manufacturers navigating complexities of artificial intelligence (AI), one key challenge is balancing the advantages of new technology with immediate and long-term costs.

10 Tips for Writing an Effective RFP or URS

If you have ever sourced custom machinery or factory automation you are familiar with a Request for Proposal (RFP) or User Requirement Specification (URS). The requests are written with content and styles that vary, but the effective ones share some common features.

How CNC Machining is Impacting Modern-Day Manufacturing? An Expert View

Regardless of your manufacturing business having its inception only a couple of years back or you being a trained professional, you must be familiar with CNC machining and how it can benefit your business in manufacturing operations.

How to harness the power of data through IoT solutions for manufacturing

IoT solutions have been helping manufacturers for years to streamline operations, cut costs and gain otherwise unfounded insights, and their importance is emphasized now more than ever as factories, plants and warehouses adjust to operating under new guidelines.

Turning Automotive Manufacturing Upside-down

The use of AM for production of spare parts does not sound as sexy as AM for racing cars, but the practical implications are enormous. That's especially true when it comes to spare parts for cars that have been on the road for more than a few years.

Cap Closed! Camera-based Cap Control With Artificial Intelligence

Strong price pressure combined with high quality requirements - the beverage and bottle industry faces the classic dilemma of many industries. This is also the case in the quality control department of a French manufacturer of plastic caps.

Ultra Motion Actuators Help Measure The Moon At 70,000 Feet

Two Ultra Motion Servo Cylinders were successfully employed to control the telescope's elevation and azimuth throughout the flights. The ARTEMIS system had to operate flawlessly at 70,000 feet and in ambient temperatures as low as -60°C.

Ready, aim, hire! Why attracting fresh talent to manufacturing is vital to the industry's long-term success

A further challenge for manufacturers, and in the case of my own company, one of our largest issues, is how to attract new young talent to an industry that's often perceived to be uninteresting.

Prerequisites For Establishing A Bulletproof Manufacturing Maintenance Program

The need to incorporate advanced maintenance programs increases as companies target safe and efficient manufacturing environments. But does a sophisticated maintenance program provide assurances that it will be foolproof?

T.J. Davies' Retention Knobs

T.J. Davies' Retention Knobs

Our retention knobs are manufactured above international standards or to machine builder specifications. Retention knobs are manufactured utilizing AMS-6274/AISI-8620 alloy steel drawn in the United States. Threads are single-pointed on our lathes while manufacturing all other retention knob features to ensure high concentricity. Our process ensures that our threads are balanced (lead in/lead out at 180 degrees.) Each retention knob is carburized (hardened) to 58-62HRC, and case depth is .020-.030. Core hardness 40HRC. Each retention knob is coated utilizing a hot black oxide coating to military specifications. Our retention knobs are 100% covered in black oxide to prevent rust. All retention knob surfaces (not just mating surfaces) have a precision finish of 32 RMA micro or better: ISO grade 6N. Each retention knob is magnetic particle tested and tested at 2.5 times the pulling force of the drawbar. Certifications are maintained for each step in the manufacturing process for traceability.
