Advanced Design Technology Releases TURBOdesign Suite 6.1
Latest version of Leading Design for Turbomachinery Suite drastically reduces turbomachinery optimization computational requirements, lower production costs.
Advanced Design Technology (ADT), a global leader in the development of advanced turbomachinery design methods and the TURBOdesign Suite today announces that its TURBOdesign Suite version 6.1 is now shipping. This version of the companys three-dimensional (3D) inverse design technology software provides major improvements and enhancements to the Suite. Turbomachinery design engineers and original equipment manufacturers benefit from the 3D inverse design technology in ADTs TURBOdesign Suite.
"This latest release of TURBOdesign Suite builds on the strong fundaments of advanced 3D inverse design approach to extend and complement requirements of our large turbomachinery manufacturers client base" says Professor Mehrdad Zangeneh, Founder and Managing Director at ADT, as well as Professor of Thermofluids at University College London, "TURBOdesign Suite v6.1 further enhances some of the most advanced blade design and optimization capabilities in the market to assist manufacturers with developing the next generation of turbomachinery components with shorter development time and higher performance."
Preliminary Design Code Extended to Real Gas Applications
An important aspect of turbomachinery design is the meanline design at which point key dimensions such as tip diameter and exit width are computed for a given duty condition. These geometrical parameters have a major effect on performance. TURBOdesign pre already provides an accurate and efficient means of preliminary design for centrifugal compressors, centrifugal and mixed flow pump, pumps, radial fans and radial turbines.
In TURBOdesign Suite 6.1 these meanline design capabilities are extended to real gases for centrifugal compressor and radial turbine. This new capability enables designers to rapidly size compressor and turbines for real gases such as new refrigerants used in Chiller applications, Organic Rankine Cycle applications or Supercritical CO2 applications. The code uses a fast look up table which can be generated directly from NIST tables.
Streamlining design processes and workflows:
With the vast number of engineering tools used in the turbomachinery development process, data transfer and integration between design and analysis software can save hundreds of man hours per project.
Major Improvements in TURBOdesign Suite v6.1 enhances integration and automation of design processes and workflows within the Clients software landscapes. This new version brings extended import capabilities for existing blade designs, automation for a variety of design post-processing tasks such as cutting blades to specific tip clearances and automatically creating solid models for export to CAD, to help designers reduce manual CAD operations and allows for more design iterations and coupling with automatic optimization methods. There is also further enhancements to TURBOdesignWB which integrates TURBOdesign1 inside ANSYS workbench for aerodynamic design optimization.
Accurate parametric studies to explore more of the design space with less computational costs:
Turbomachinery is nowadays required to operate across multiple operating conditions challenging the designers to consider more of the design space and understand the impact of the changes at different speeds / operating conditions.
TURBOdesign Suite v6.1 delivers significant improvements to meridional shape and meanline flow-path parameterisation for axial, mixed-flow and centrifugal / radial turbomachinery blades allowing more design space to be explored with lower number of design parameters. Unique blade parameterisation capabilities based on three-dimensional blade loading definition lower the errors associated with interconnected geometrical design parameters resulting in higher order of accuracy surrogate models that can drastically decrease computational costs.
Additional sensitivity analysis function introduced in TURBOdesign Suite 6.1 to enable ranking of design parameters versus various performance parameters and hence help designers to rapidly select the more important design parameters for detailed multi-point/multi-objective/multi-disciplinary optimization.
Enabling high performance components at low manufacturing costs:
Virtually every manufacturer requires high efficiency and reliability components but at the lower possible manufacturing costs in mass volume production.
TURBOdesign Suite v6.1 introduces advancements to its User Defined Parameter system which is a Python class with methods which enable the user to access the TURBOdesign1 generated output. This feature enables the user to harness the power of Python to develop bespoke scripts to perform complex calculations on both flow parameters and geometrical parameters, which can then be used for optimization. TURBOdesign Suite 6.1 reinforces existing capabilities to support development of high efficiency components with consideration of manufacturing constraints early in the design process, lowering overall development and production costs.
TURBOdesign Suite System Requirements, Availability and Pricing
TURBOdesign Suite 6.1 in now available for download, the Suite runs on Windows systems. It operates on mid-range workstations with 2.4 Ghz or better processors, 2 GB RAM and 1Gb disk space. The TURBOdesign Suite is sold in modules starting from $15,000 USD with software training and technical support included.
