Allied Machine adds longer length holders to APX drilling line
10xD holders for larger diameters available as standard product.
Allied Machine and Engineering, a leading manufacturer of holemaking and finishing cutting tools for the metal-cutting industry, announces the addition of 10xD APX drill bodies for 76, 83, 89 and 95 series. This addition covers a diameter range of 2.9918 inches to 4.0000 inches (76.00 millimeters - 101.60 millimeters). Offering these 10xD bodies as a standard product allows customers to extend their drilling capabilities beyond the previous standard product offering of 8xD.
With the strength and versatility that the APX drill provides, these additional drill bodies can be used for any application requiring large diameters with deep holes; however, the 10xD length holders are an ideal solution for the oil and gas industry in components such as frac blocks.
Not only does the APX drill, which is designed to increase penetration rates and tool life, provide the lowest cost per hole among deep hole drilling lines, but this addition gives customers an on-the-shelf solution at larger diameters and longer depths—a solution that is often a special for other manufacturers.

Using AI to Collect & Leverage Data
Data is the foundation of Industry 4.0. While skilled workers will always be essential, data is reshaping the manufacturing landscape, enabling automation of repetitive tasks, empowering smarter decision-making with AI assistance, and reducing defects and downtime. This shift allows small and medium-sized manufacturers (SMMs) to compete more effectively on quality, speed, and cost. While AI and machine learning systems typically require around two years to collect enough data to reach their full potential, manufacturers can start seeing benefits almost immediately with basic analysis tools and dashboards. Our MEP National NetworkTM expert explains how in this Manufacturing Tomorrow article.
