Lorin Highlights ClearMatt® for Use in Appliances

ClearMatt® Anodized Aluminum features high performance and aesthetics

Muskegon, MI - Lorin Industries, Inc., the global industry leader in the innovation and production of coil anodized aluminum, highlights their leading product, ClearMatt®, ideal for use in appliance products needing an aesthetic and durable finish.

Many appliances require a durable surface to handle the variety of uses and environments in which they will be used. That is where anodized aluminum from Lorin comes into play. Lorin's coil anodizing process builds an anodic layer from the aluminum, bonding it to the surface at the molecular level, thus protecting the aluminum from the elements. The anodized aluminum will not chip, flake, peel, or corrode and also resists scratching. With a surface hardness, as measured on the Mohs Hardness scale, comparable to sapphire, and corrosion resistance that leaves the metal unaffected by salt and air, Lorin's coil anodized aluminum provides durable beauty that cuts maintenance costs while providing added environmental benefits.

Compared with coated or painted metals, which are often used on appliances, Lorin's ClearMatt anodized aluminum provides a true metallic feel and at the same time it will not chip, flake, or peel. Beyond its durability and performance, the 3-dimensional oxide layer is translucent, accentuating the metal surface below. And the crystalline sapphire structure of the anodic layer also reflects and refracts light just like a sapphire to enhance the beauty of any surface. Additionally, anodized aluminum weighs significantly less than stainless steel or other metals, making it easier to handle and providing excellent cost savings.

Especially important for appliances, Lorin's ClearMatt meets NSF 51 guidelines for primary food contact and can be used for food surfaces. Additionally, Lorin has done extensive testing to demonstrate how its anodic layer creates an anti-microbial surface thus minimizing the ability to transfer unnecessary contaminants to the food. This means it can be easily cleaned and sanitized, making it the perfect choice for primary food contact surfaces, where hygiene is of the utmost importance.

ClearMatt® anodized aluminum can be used for a wide range of appliance applications, including refrigerator fronts, dishwasher fronts, washer and dryer control panels, appliance heat plates, coffee makers, and decorative trim. Anodized aluminum is also used for the faceplates, doors, covers, and trim for all types of kitchen appliances, delivering brilliant, natural metal aesthetics, as well as unmatched durability and maintenance ease.

T.J. Davies' Retention Knobs

Our retention knobs are manufactured above international standards or to machine builder specifications. Retention knobs are manufactured utilizing AMS-6274/AISI-8620 alloy steel drawn in the United States. Threads are single-pointed on our lathes while manufacturing all other retention knob features to ensure high concentricity. Our process ensures that our threads are balanced (lead in/lead out at 180 degrees.) Each retention knob is carburized (hardened) to 58-62HRC, and case depth is .020-.030. Core hardness 40HRC. Each retention knob is coated utilizing a hot black oxide coating to military specifications. Our retention knobs are 100% covered in black oxide to prevent rust. All retention knob surfaces (not just mating surfaces) have a precision finish of 32 RMA micro or better: ISO grade 6N. Each retention knob is magnetic particle tested and tested at 2.5 times the pulling force of the drawbar. Certifications are maintained for each step in the manufacturing process for traceability.
