ZEISS Shows New Quality Control Inspection Solutions at IMTS 2018

Whether in the lab, the measuring room or in production, to ensure efficient and reliable quality assurance processes, more than just inspection systems are needed. Customers need the peace of mind that comes with having an experienced partner—now and in the future.

Being sure is the ZEISS Industrial Metrology theme at IMTS (International Manufacturing Technology Show) in 2018, offering a broad range of customized quality systems and support. Whether in the lab, the measuring room or in production, to ensure efficient and reliable quality assurance processes, more than just inspection systems are needed. Customers need the peace of mind that comes with having an experienced partner—now and in the future. From CT solutions to CMMs to software, there are several customizable solution areas to explore in three ZEISS booths at IMTS: East Building, 135502 (main booth) and 135655 (ZEISS X-ray Solutions), plus the North Building, Smartforce Student Summit, 215406. And Head of ZEISS Additive Manufacturing Process and Control will present on Enabling Yield Improvement in 3D Printing Process Chain at the IMTS Conference on Wednesday, September 12 from 11 am to 12 pm in the West Building, Room 192-A.

X-Ray Solutions

ZEISS acquired a majority stake in Italian X-ray provider Bosello HT to offer a broader spectrum of CT solutions for customers. The BOSELLO SRE MAX 2D industrial radioscopic system will be on display showing inline and atline inspection solutions for the automotive and aerospace industry. The technology increases the level of quality in the inspection of aluminum cast parts. 3D X-Ray CT measurements for complete internal and external part insights will be demonstrated on the ZEISS METROTOM. We will also highlight high resolution 3D X-Ray microscopy with the ZEISS Xradia Versa.

Entry Level to Ultra Precision CMMs

A broad range of systems will be highlighted at the show, including the latest addition to the ZEISS CMM lineup. Ideal for measuring small, intricate parts, the MICURA CMM from ZEISS with active scanning and submicron accuracy now includes a model with an even larger measuring range. The new system can handle bigger parts with a 40 percent larger measuring range of 500 x 700 x 500 millimeters and has a machine-mounted controller, saving floor space. ZEISS MICURA comes with the VAST XT gold or the VAST XTR gold active scanning sensor. Angled features are best suited for the VAST XTR gold sensor. Its integrated swivel joint enables the stylus system to turn as far as possible in 15 degree increments and thus always positions the stylus in the direction of the feature being measured.

2D and 3D Measurements

From 2D profile projectors to 3D scanners to multisensor CMMS, the full range of optical solutions can be found at the main ZEISS booth. And it is now possible to inspect sensitive, reflective or low-contrast surfaces more quickly than ever before with the ZEISS O-INSPECT multisensor coordinate measuring machine. We will be demonstrating the new ZEISS DotScan chromatic-confocal white light sensor on the ZEISS O-INSPECT CMM.

The ZEISS DotScan sensor can be swapped in and out as needed, saving a lot of time and increasing flexibility. The sensor is available in three sizes for different measuring ranges: one, three and ten millimeters. In November 2018, all new ZEISS O-INSPECT multisensor measuring machine systems will come standard with an interface to use the new sensor.

Inline. Atline. Offline.

Two robotic systems will be the centerpiece of the main ZEISS booth, allowing attendees to get up-close demonstrations of the latest automated inspection solutions. ZEISS is a one-stop partner for systematic quality assurance in car body construction, from measurement and inspection technology to the fixtures up to quality data management and service. Get maximum quality and productivity with integrated ZEISS technology.

Roughness, Contour and Form Inspection

Form and surface measuring systems seamlessly integrate into the range of industrial measuring technology from ZEISS. There is a wide range of stand-alone machines and a sensor dedicated to a CMM, ZEISS ROTOS. The new sensor enables the use of CMMs to completely inspect surface waviness and roughness - even on complex workpieces, all in a single measurement run without any reclamping. This cutting-edge innovation simplifies and speeds up the measurement of all surface parameters from the drawing in a single measurement cycle. Programming the surface parameters is quick and easy because the ZEISS ROTOS is completely integrated in CALYPSO, the ZEISS measuring software. Surface roughness can be analyzed and visualized in a customized, professional display, together with size, form and location in ZEISS PiWeb reporting. A new line of portable, entry-level surface roughness systems with a large touch screen, SURFCOM TOUCH, will also be on display.

Inspection, Analysis and Reporting

ZEISS CALYPSO, the easy-to-use metrology software, works with the ZEISS portfolio of coordinate measuring machines, optical systems, computed tomography machines and more. The same tools and capabilities for inspection are available, no matter the application. CALYPSO 2018 will be on display and the new version gives customers over 100 new functions to further enhance their quality inspection processes. PiWeb reporting, built into CALYPSO 2018, has been enhanced with new features, plus more user-friendly functions for the growing optical product line, efficiency improvements for curve measurements and testing of parts families, and new characteristics calculations.
