New Thomson video shows how the Motorized Lead Screw's Taper Lock allows quick, easy de-coupling in the field

09.07.2015, WOOD DALE, IL - Thomson Industries, Inc., a leading manufacturer of mechanical motion control solutions, has released a new educational video to help design engineers correctly service the Thomson Motorized Lead Screw in the field. The precision-engineered units combine a hybrid stepper motor and lead screw in one compact envelope to provide clear advantages with a solution that is smaller, stronger, and more efficient than alternate technologies.

Jonathan Wray, Director of Product Marketing at Thomson, explains in the video, "Traditional lead screws with direct couplings typically have an external coupling that joins the lead screw with the motor, or the lead is directly coupled by a press fit or welded directly to the motor." The innovative Thomson Taper Lock (patent pending) allows engineers to decouple the lead screw in the field without removing the stepper motor.

Using Taper Lock also assures that the connection between the lead screw and motor is secure, robust and correctly aligned. Thomson Motorised Lead Screws can offer up to 30% more load capacity than other comparable products, without increasing installation footprint.

Jonathan demonstrates how to service a Thomson Motorized Lead Screw in the field, he says: "Loosen the cap on the lead screw, once the threads disengage it is easy to pickup the assembly and remove the lead screw from the motor. The taper on the lead screw rests into the motor shaft, to re-assemble, simply place the lead screw back into the motor and tighten down the cap screw."

Thomson strives to continually innovate and lead the marketplace in linear motion solutions and also share their application engineering and technical expertise. To that end, Thomson has authored a wide range of educational videos, webinars and technical white papers available now at www.thomsonlinear.com to inform and guide design engineers, explain technology alternatives and simplify the linear motion component selection process.
